Insights from our Mealpulse™ food panel highlight household participation trends across Australia’s .
When comparing participation across the Sep-21 to Sep-25 MAT, all specialist channels, including bakeries, fishmongers, butchers, and delicatessens, have seen increased participation at a national level, whereas greengrocer participation has decreased. This suggests that supermarkets are increasingly meeting the fruit and vegetable needs of shoppers.
Bakery grew by +5.2%, fishmonger by +0.3%, butcher by +1.2%, and delicatessen by +1.3%, while greengrocer declined by -2.4%.

Households with higher discretionary dollars remain the largest demographic for specialist participation, reflecting the appeal of quality and freshness in these channels. However, the decline in greengrocer visits highlights the shifting balance in the ongoing supermarket vs specialist food retailers dynamic.
