Household fruit purchasing trends for the year ending June 2026 highlights the resilience of Australia’s fruit category through the winter season. Staple fruits continue to anchor household baskets, while citrus and everyday favourites maintain strong shopper engagement during the cooler months.

Freshlogic’s key insights include:

  • Apples and bananas remain the foundation of household fruit purchasing. Apples are purchased by 90% of households, making them the most widely bought fruit category, while bananas continue to generate the highest shopping frequency at 45 trips per year, reaching 84% of households. Grapes also remain a core fruit purchase, attracting 58% household penetration with almost 25 trips annually.
  • Winter favourites continue to perform strongly. Oranges reach 60% of households with more than 11 purchase trips annually, while mandarins are purchased by 65% of households and average 19 trips per year, underscoring their importance in winter fruit consumption.
  • Avocados maintain their mainstream appeal. Reaching 66% of households and averaging more than 20 purchase trips annually, avocados remain one of the most consistently purchased fresh produce categories across the year.
  • Berry shoppers remain highly engaged. Strawberries lead the berry category, reaching 74% of households and generating 24 purchase occasions annually. Blueberries follow closely with 22 trips per year and 48% household penetration, while raspberries and blackberries continue to attract loyal repeat purchasers.
  • Pears and kiwifruit continue to resonate with winter shoppers. Pears reach 54% of households and average over 10 annual trips, while kiwifruit is purchased by 36% of households and generates more than 21 trips per year among buyers, reflecting strong repeat engagement.
  • Lemons and limes remain pantry essentials. Limes stand out with an exceptionally high purchase frequency of 42 trips annually among their buyer base, while lemons continue to support everyday cooking, entertaining and beverage occasions.
  • Melons continue to generate year-round demand. Watermelons reach just over half of all households and average nearly 11 trips annually, while muskmelons maintain penetration across one-third of households and deliver some of the highest purchase quantities per trip.
