Fresh Produce Retail Promotional Activity Increases in Q2

Fresh produce retail promotional activity rises as retailers take different approaches - Aldi and Coles increased promotional activity, driving overall market growth.

Fresh fruit and vegetable promotional activity increased by 1.5% year-on-year, reaching 4,599 advertisements for the quarter.

The increase was primarily driven by Aldi (+3.9%) and Coles (+15.5%), while promotional activity at Woolworths eased slightly (-0.4%), highlighting differing retailer strategies across the market.

Promotions remained concentrated in key fresh produce categories including apples, potatoes, salads, tomatoes and citrus, while advertised prices increased by 2.0% to $8.33/kg on average.
