The latest data on supermarket shopping trends reveals a clear shift in the March 2025 quarter compared to December 2024. Woolworths (WW) saw a recovery from earlier supply disruptions, with single-store shopping rates returning to normal levels, now at 51.9%.
In contrast, Coles and Aldi both recorded a decline in single-store shopping. Aldi fell to 26.2% (down from 28.6% in December 2024), while Coles fell to 50.8%, down from 56.2%.
When comparing the total number of shoppers across multiple-store visits, we see significant changes. Aldi’s shoppers visiting two stores dropped to 45.9% in March 2025, down from 54.0% in December 2024, while their shoppers visiting three stores increased to 27.9%, up from 17.5%. This is a notable shift toward more price-conscious behaviour, with shoppers opting to cross-shop across more retailers to find value.

Coles saw a similar trend, with shoppers visiting two stores falling to 27.7%, down from 31.5% in December 2024, while shoppers visiting three stores increased to 21.5%, up from 12.3%.
Woolworths also saw changes, with shoppers visiting two stores dropping significantly to 29.8% from 37.4% in December 2024, while their shoppers visiting three or more stores rose modestly to 18.2%, up from 16.1%.
Overall, there has been a marked increase in shoppers engaging in multiple-store visits, a clear indication that consumers are increasingly looking for better value and variety across different retailers.
